«Community Center for Development» NGO implemented «Strengthening women’s involvement in politics» project funded by European Endowment for Democracy organization in 2016. The EED support was directed to the civic society development in the region, to overcome the gender barrier in the elections existing in the region.
The initiative was formed to encourage rural women to run for Local Authorities elections on September 18, 2016. The main purpose of the project was to promote awareness and knowledge of the active women groups in rural communities through organizing core training courses on Public Speaking, Community Management and local government legislation. In frames of the project our experts developed pre-electoral programs, followed by booklets publishing for each of the candidate. The most significant achievement was the increased motivation and willingness of women to run for the LA elections. Out of 20 trained women 12 were elected as community council members.
